American Heritage Chocolate: The Best Chocolate of 2011

In the past it has been relatively easy for your Chocolate Priestess to select the "best" of the past year and I did that on the last Saturday of 2009 and 2010.  This year, however, was more of a challenge because of the quality and variety of chocolate we've been privileged to feature here on The Chocolate Cult.  We have written 67 featured reviews in 2011 covering retailers, small independent chocolatiers, and big name brands.  We've looked at personal care products, fun kits, baking supplies, candy, dessert kits, drinks, and elaborate creations.

We we name our "best" of a year we want to look at the chocolate but also the message of the company, the versatility of the chocolate, and everything that makes it stand out for that year.  I've spoken with some of the Acolytes, I've re-read the reviews, and this year it came down to a chocolate you would have to be adventuresome to try yourself.  I think you, Sisters and Brothers, could be this brave.

American Heritage Chocolate is not chocolate like we think of it today.  Made as near to what their historians can determine was Colonial style chocolate, this company puts effort into not only the creation of their chocolate but also educating the public about the history of a nation and the history of our Sacred Substance.  From the shipping of the chocolates to the forms it comes in, they have gone to effect to help create a historical feeling.  I don't know if many of you realize this, Sisters and Brothers, but your Chocolate Priestess has a PhD in history so this touches a special place in my heart.

But this company is also qualified to be our Best of 2011 because of the chocolate as well.  It is versatile -- coming in three basic forms that be eaten solo, used in recipes, or to make desserts.  I think the grated chocolate drink is the most useable for the modern kitchen since it does not require much preparation before you can add it to recipes.  Think mor hearty, think more spicy, when you try this and use it either with recipes their website suggests or in your own creations.  Take some time and read the three reviews we did here on The Chocolate Cult.

Congrats to American Heritage Chocolate for being the Best Chocolate of 2011 here on The Chocolate Cult.
